About Us

Welcome to Rosh Ragua Clinic for Headaches and Migraines

An outside-the-box approach for safe and successful treatment of headaches and migraines.

At Rosh Ragua, we understand how much headaches can affect your daily life-physically and mentally. Our mission is to reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches, or even to eliminate them completely, to change your life for the better.

Our treatment is called the SphenoPalatine Ganglion (SPG) Block. Unfortunately, very few doctors in Israel use this technique.

The treatment has a high success rate and it can be successful for even the most severe migraines. With SPG Block treatment, many of our patients experience a decrease in the severity of headaches and a longer interval between attacks. Some of our patients report that their headaches stop for months, or even longer.

The clinic is headed by Dr. Gil Grant, an anesthesiologist with extensive knowledge of pain management, and more than 40 years of experience at NYU Hospital in New York.

6 Reasons to try SPG block treatment:

You’ve tried everything…

Conventional medications and treatments haven’t solved your headache problem. It’s time to try something different, a technique that is very safe and has a high success rate, and has worked for many people after all other attempts failed. And at Rosh Ragua, our  doctor and nurse team will work with you and design a treatment plan to your specific needs. We are committed to your success.

1
Negligible side effects

Our treatment is given into your nose to target your headache. Because it is a more localized treatment than pills or injections, systemic side effects that are common with other treatments simply don't occur with SPG Blocks. There are some sensations that accompany the block itself, but they are mild and short-lived. For example, a bitter taste and a numb sensation in your throat. Both these effects last for less than 30 minutes after the procedure is completed.

2
Focused approach

With pills or injections, your entire body is exposed to these drugs, even though their target is only your head. The SPG Block is different. It is a focused approach on the target: the nerves that participate in causing your headache. Because these nerves are located inside your nose, we place the local anesthetic in your nose WITHOUT NEEDLES. The goal is to have the local anesthetic block the nerves that cause headaches.

3
Safety and reliability

Our method is safe and reliable. It has been used in the U.S. for more than 100 years, since 1908. Because it’s so safe, you can actually do it yourself at home. We will teach you how, and we will be there during your journey to provide ongoing support by phone or video chat when you have questions. And if you want in-person support - no problem - we will be happy to provide that for you. The goal: to put you in control of your pain relief, so that you can take care of your headaches whenever and wherever you are.

Suitable for most headache sufferers

The SPG block is so safe, it can be used by nearly everyone, even pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. In fact, we consider it to be the best way to treat migraines in these situations. Before starting the treatment, we will assess you, and of course if you’re pregnant we encourage you to speak with your obstetrician.

Questions and Answers

Answers to frequently asked questions

Yes, The SPG Block can help even the most severe migraines, including debilitating ones that interfere with your ability to function.

Yes, there is certainly a chance that the SPG Block could help you. This is because the SPG Block works in a completely different way than all the treatments that you have already tried. The block actually stops the transmission in the specific nerves that are responsible for causing your headache. So, just because all those other treatments didn’t work well enough, it doesn’t mean that the SPG Block won’t work. It’s actually possible that you may finally find the pain relief that you’ve been hoping for!

Although we can’t guarantee success, if you’ve tried many other treatments and they haven’t worked, we think it’s sensible to try a new and different approach. Of course, there is a risk that it may not work, but this is true of nearly every medical or surgical treatment for any problem. And, because the SPG Block is very safe and because the side effects are negligible, if your headaches are a problem for you, there is not much to lose by trying it.

Yes, that is a fact. There is no way to know in advance if the SPG Block will definitely work for your headache. You need to try it to find out.

That’s a very reasonable question. Here is our answer: Every treatment decision ultimately comes down to a risk-benefit analysis. For any treatment of any ailment, we need to carefully consider the risk of the treatment versus the benefits of the treatment. For the SPG Block this risk – benefit analysis is quite straightforward. The risks are very minimal, and are essentially limited to relatively minor and brief discomfort related to the procedure itself: some discomfort in the nose for a few seconds and a bitter taste and numbness in the throat that lasts for up to 30 minutes after the block is finished. The benefit is potentially great, as it may decrease the severity of your headache pain, the frequency of your headache attacks and perhaps even eliminate them entirely. One other downside is that to get the SPG Block you would need to pay our professional fee.

The SPG block works by anesthetizing a cluster of nerves that is involved in causing your headaches. By blocking the signal that is transmitted through those nerves, we can stop the headache. To do this, we use a local anesthetic called lidocaine. It is a very common local anesthetic, and most everyone has received it or one of its close cousins at one time or another, for example, at the dentist. Lidocaine is very safe in small quantities, the kind that we provide to our patients during treatments and self-treatment at home.

Yes. There are two ways we can increase the likelihood of success: 1) actions related to the way the procedure is done, and 2) the number of times the procedure is repeated. We will be happy to discuss both of these ways in detail with you, based on your response to the first treatment and your particular headache situation.

Usually, most people find that the treatment works within 15–60 minutes, but for some it may work a little quicker, and others may find it takes a bit longer. It varies with each individual and depends on many factors, some of which we simply can’t control. So this is something that we can’t answer accurately until you try the SPG Block.
