About Us

Welcome to Rosh Ragua

At Rosh Ragua, we encounter people every day who have stopped believing that it’s truly possible to be free from migraines and recurring headaches.

Our clinic was born from the desire to provide a simple, scientific, and precise solution that enables headache sufferers to take control of their pain, and to free them from pills or injections and all of the side effects that accompany systemic treatment. Our treatment is focused on a specific group of nerves that are very important in causing many types of headaches. Because these nerves are located in the nose, we can reach them and numb them. This stops the pain signals that travel through them,  and therefore stops the headache.  This treatment has been used for more than 100 years, with a high rate of success. It can reduce the number of headaches that occur and the intensity of teach headache. In some cases it can even stop the headaches completely. The treatment is known as the SPG (SphenoPalatine Ganglion) Block.

Rosh Ragua was founded by Dr. Gil Grant, an anesthesiologist with extensive knowledge in pain management and forty years of experience at NYU Hospital in New York. After immigrating to Israel with his family, he is bringing his expertise and experience in treating migraines the SPG Block method.

About Us

Dr. Gil Grant – Head of the Clinic

Dr. Gil Grant is an anesthesiologist who has been practicing pain management for his entire career. He made aliyah after 40 years at NYU Medical Center in New York, including more than 30 years as the director of the Obstetric Anesthesia Unit. In this role, Dr. Grant specialized in anesthesia and pain relief during and after childbirth, caring for thousands of women, and trained hundreds of resident doctors. Dr. Grant also served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology for more than 20 years.

Dr. Grant has dedicated his career to pain treatment, research in the field, and finding new and better ways to relieve pain. He pioneered some new  techniques for pain management. For example, he was the first scientist to use an ultra-long-acting local anesthetic to treat pain that occurs immediately after surgery (1997, Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica) and was also used the SPG block to relieve chronic headaches in a pregnant patient who had failed systemic treatment (2014, International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia). Dr, Grant discovered that the SPG Block can be use to treat the severe shoulder pain that may occur after different types of surgery (2018, A&A Practice).

Dr. Grant was born and raised in Michigan, and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. He then moved to New York City, where he trained in spent more than 40 years, before immigrating to Israel, in October 2023. He is now committed to help those suffering from headaches at his Rosh Ragua clinic. His vision is to ease the burden on Israelis who suffer from severe headaches and to improve their quality of life.

Alexandra Grant – Registered Nurse

Alexandra Grant completed her studies at Reichman University (IDC) in 2014 with a degree in Business Administration. After working in high-tech for two years, Alexandra chose to fulfill her dream and become a nurse. She completed her studies at the Tel Aviv University School of Nursing in 2020. She spent three years at Ichilov Hospital in the internal medicine department and in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, and then she spent two years at a Maccabi clinic, working on chronic disease management and patient support, including home visits.

Alexandra brings with her diverse experience and a deep commitment to caring for those suffering from headaches using the SPG Block technique.

The Treatment

How does the SPG block method work to relieve migraines and headaches?

The SPG block treatment is a focused procedure for treating migraines and other headaches and is performed through the nose with a cotton swab, in a way that somewhat resembles a COVID nasal swab test.

How the treatment is performed: We gently insert a cotton-tipped swab soaked with local anesthetic (lidocaine) into the nose, so that it rests close to the SphenoPalatine Ganglion (SPG), a small but important cluster of nerves that plays a central role in activating the headache pain system.

Once the anesthetic reaches the nerve cluster, it blocks the pain signals that travel through these nerves, interrupts the headache cycle, and “re-balances” the nervous system. If it’s done when the headache first begins coming on, it may be able to stop it from starting. For many people, the SPG Block seems to act as a “reset” for the system, decreasing the frequency and severity of the headaches.

Highly effective and very safe:

What makes the treatment special is the combination of high effectiveness and safety. There are no injections, and no systemic medications that cause significant side effects. Thousands of patients worldwide use SPG Blocks to reduce migraines and chronic headaches. The treatment is suitable for those who have tried almost everything else and have not yet found satisfactory relief. The effects are sometimes felt within minutes. In some cases, we recommend a series of treatments to stabilize the system and achieve long-term results.

The advantages of SPG block treatment at Rosh Ragua

  • Quick and gentle treatment: Relatively easy to perform procedure.

  • High success rates: A high percentage of patients respond positively to the treatment.

  • Significant and long-lasting relief from migraine: Many patients report that the intensity of their migraines decrease and that the intervals between attacks are longer. Some patients find the migraines completely stop.

  • Safe treatment with no significant side effects: The treatment is based on a safe and common anesthetic (lidocaine). No significant side effects are known, aside from a few annoying but short-lived sensations related to the treatment that usually pass after a few minutes, such as a  bitter taste and a numb sensation in the throat.

  • Personal guidance and self-treatment instruction: We support our patients, teaching them how to use the SPG Block, the tool that can enable them to take control of their headaches, while providing ongoing assistance and advice.
